Jonny Cronin was not the only child actor who decided to try his luck by changing into other different career opportunities available to him. Like him, Mara Wilson, another famous child actor, decided to play her cards by being a writer after quitting acting.

Born on July 24, 1987, in Burbank, California, Mara Wilson started her acting career at the age of 5. She was highly impressed by his brother acting in different commercials which urged her to pursue her passion in this field. Through her diligence, Mara was able to impress the producers and secured the role of Natalie Hillard in the film Mrs. Doubtfire (1993). By showing outstanding performance in this film, she quickly set her footing tight in the acting industry and was loved by many screen viewers. She continued her journey by starring in many different films namely, Susan Walker in Miracle on 34th Street (1994), and Lily Stone in Thomas and the Magic Railroad (2000). However, to date, she is most famously known for playing Matilda Wormwood in Matilda (1996). Although during the shooting of this film, Mara Wilson lost her mother due to breast cancer, her sheer confidence and dedication led her to portray her role fantastically.

Mara Wilson decided to halt her journey after starring in Thomas and the Magic Railroad. Due to immense pressure on her physical looks and too much criticism from the public view, she directed her attention toward her studies and continued her education at Idyllwild Arts Academy. She wanted to live life freely without any judgments like her brothers which led her to cease acting. Continuing her journey, she transferred to New York to complete her studies at Tisch School of the Arts and successfully graduated in 2009. Though Mara made special appearances on different occasions in different films but later clarified her permanent retirement from acting by saying that she did not have many privileges on the sets and was always bound to the director’s commands. Hence, acting didn’t bring much fun to her because there were rarely any chances given to her to express herself.

Like Jonny Cronin continued his passion for wrestling in his college life, Mara also resumed her interest in acting by participating in her own one-woman show called Weren’t You That Girl? while at university

Though Mara lost her interest in film acting, she did pursue her interest in stage acting by playing her part in “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” and “Cinderella”. She also conducted live shows namely, “Weren’t You That Girl” and “What Are You Afraid Of?”.

Mara Wilson now passionately pursues her career in writing. She wrote articles for Cracked.com about her views on the misconduct of some former child actors. The books were Am I Now? True Stories of Girlhood and Accidental Fame also paved her path in the writing industry.

She desires to continue this career by firmly believing and stating that her acting days have ended.
